Nine members of the McNally Memorial Pipe Band sat for examination on May 1, 2014 conducted by Alan Wallace. Recordings are submitted to Pipe Major Nat Russell of Pipe Bands Victoria for moderation.

The Preliminary Qualification course consist of both written and practical components. Participants were required to play (i) a series of rudiments on the practice chanter/drum pad and (ii) a 2 parted tune on the bagpipes/drums.

This certification program is accredited by the Pipe Bands Victoria in accordance to the new qualification structure as set out by the Piping and Drumming Qualification Board (PDQB) of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association.
